Internet Call Manager - The original internet call waiting service — since 1996

Customer Service: General Questions

What is Internet Call Manager (ICM)?

Internet Call Manager is the cost-effective solution to the problem of missed calls while your phone line is busy because you're on the Internet. It is ideal for anyone who wants the freedom to be online. You can comfortably do everything you do on the Internet worry-free while ICM monitors your telephone line.

ICM Deluxe even handles your calls when you're not on the Internet. It includes all the features of ICM, plus a full-time voicemail system for your online and off-line messaging needs.

When someone calls you while you're on the Internet, the call is forwarded to an ICM server. The ICM server collects the caller's information and sends it across the Internet to your computer screen. A pop-up window shows you information about the caller, and allows you to choose one of the following options:

  • Play Message - Click this option and you'll have the choice of playing your caller one of a variety of messages. You can customize these yourself!
  • Voicemail - Send callers to your voicemail and access messages online from your personal voicemail page. With ICM Deluxe, you can also access these messages by phone.
  • Answer - You will be disconnected from the Internet, and the call will be sent to you through your phone line.
  • Transfer - Transfer the call to another number, like a cell phone, and continue surfing.
  • Ignore - Your caller will hear ringing and you can continue your Internet session in privacy.
  • Open Door - "Buzz" in visitors who call you from the lobby of your apartment building.

ICM also allows you to set nicknames for callers and choose how to automatically handle calls. You can customize ICM to work whichever way suits you best!

Note: Following your trial, you must subscribe to a Call Pack to continue using the Answer and Transfer options.

How does ICM work?

The ICM software (once downloaded and installed) runs on your computer. When you are on the Internet, this ICM software connects to our ICM server. This is how ICM knows where to send your calls. The Status Indicator on your ICM Main Window or on the System Tray icon will be green or yellow when your software is connected to our server.

For ICM to work, your calls must reach our ICM server when you're online - the same server to which your ICM software connects. We do this by arranging, or having you arrange, a call forwarding service with your telephone company. When someone calls you, the call is forwarded to our server, where the information about the caller is captured and then displayed to you through an Incoming Call Pop-up. You can then choose how you want to handle the call.

Will the ICM Voicemail work all the time?

There are 2 levels of ICM service; ICM and ICM Deluxe:

ICM

ICM's voicemail will only work when you are connected to the Internet with ICM running. You can send callers to voicemail using the buttons on your ICM software, or if you miss an incoming call, your caller will be sent to voicemail automatically. When you are not on the Internet, ICM voicemail will not take your calls. You are notified of new messages through the Message Waiting indicator on your ICM software and the numeric MWI icon, both of which you can click to access your Web voicemail page.

ICM Deluxe

ICM Deluxe's voicemail is a full-time messaging system that works when you are on the Internet and when you are not. It captures messages for you when you choose the Voicemail call-handling option on your ICM software, when you miss an incoming call, or when you are not home. You can receive notification of new voicemail through your ICM software or by e-mail to the mobile device of your choice. You can access messages online from your personal voicemail page, or by phone.

How do I update my e-mail address so that I can continue to receive information about ICM?

You can update your e-mail address with us by visiting the Update E-mail link on your secure Account page, which you can access through your ICM software by clicking on the Account button, or through your Account page.

Will ICM work with all Internet Service Providers (ISPs)?
